You are greeted by a small and humble looking structure. The outside of the building is a mix of old and new in many colors, some faded, some vibrant. A sign over the door reads “2110 Haines Street, Baltimore MD 21201”. You open the door as you walk up to the front door. The “2110 Haines Street” plaque on the wall is faded and a little crooked, but it still manages to give you some hope that the building can be repaired. However, as you go in, the door closes behind you and locks with a sound more fitting for a prison than a all-purpose office facility.
The main room is adorned with gray concrete walls and a gray concrete floor. A large, plain table is in the center of the room. Stairs lead down to your right, though the stairs are in fairly disrepair. They look like they haven’t been swept in months, possibly years. You turn back to the front door after a while and see no one outside. Then you hear a familiar whistling sound coming from up above. Someone is on the roof, fixing something.
You decide to try the door again. It’s still locked, but then you notice a sign on the wall with an arrow pointing up to its interior street level entrance. You walk back outside, and there’s a man standing on the roof, his back to you. You call out to him and ask if he could come down so we could talk.

You can feel the tension before you even start talking. In the small lobby, there is a guard who is bored out of his mind and looking for anything to do or anyone to talk to. The receptionist sits behind the reception desk, and looks up in hope when you start talking about the building and office space. She looks at you with a face that says “I wish I was anywhere else”. You walk over to her desk and write on a piece of paper “2110 Haines Street [Save this address]”. You give it to the receptionist and walk over to the guard in the lobby. Walking up to him, you pull out a pen and write “Save this address” on a piece of paper and hand it to him, who actually looks happy that something is going on in his life at least for a minute or two. He walks away into the depths of the building…
“I am going to provide you with a sample of my writing. I want to prove that I am a good writer. If you are satisfied, we will move forward.” – You and the receptionist talk about the idea of providing samples of your writing as proof to what you can do as a writer, how that can help in obtaining your dream job. Both agree that this would be a good idea, so she pulls out some paperwork and writes “2110 Haines Street [ Save this address]”.

You go back to the receptionist and ask “Are you busy?” The receptionist responds and says “No, but I have nothing to do” You think maybe the company doesn’t have enough business for her. You wonder why the company is not doing well. You look around and notice that there are no other people waiting besides yourself. You ask, “How come there are no other people here?” The receptionist answers saying “I guess the company doesn’t have enough business”. She looks a little sad. You start talking with the receptionist and try to understand why she is being so cooperative. Then, you notice it: a sign above her desk which reads, “Save this Address” You realize that they might be looking for a new office. You ask, “Why don’t you rent a new office?” The receptionist turns around smiling. You look out the window and see that their building is a department store. She says, “No one can afford it.”
