Are left turns dangerous?

Speaking of traffic signs and signals. How much time do we waste looking at traffic lights? We don’t actually have to go through the process but we are still wasting our time when we don’t know what the yield is for each signal. But now you know! I bet you didn’t even have to google it. Now that’s a power move if I’ve ever seen one!

I was driving down the road yesterday when I realized I had no idea what the left turn yield sign meant. So today I decided to google it and it turns out that I am not alone! I found a great answer on the Red Eye Fly blog . The answer is as follows:
If you’re making a left turn at an intersection with a traffic light, a flashing yellow arrow means you can turn left after yielding to pedestrians, cyclists and oncoming traffic if it’s clear. The signal is off and a solid yellow arrow means you must wait for the green arrow before making a left turn. If there’s no solid or flashing yellow arrow, you must wait for the green signal to make the turn.
The same rules apply if you’re turning left at an intersection with a stop sign or a four-way stop. But now that you know that, you’re probably kicking yourself for all of the times when you just assumed the car in front of you had the right-of-way and went along your merry way.

What does a left turn yield on green mean?

So how does the yield sign compare to a stop sign? The yield sign is always green. The red stop sign has no special meaning. On both, drivers must yield to traffic in the intersection. This means that when you turn left on a green yield sign, you are allowed to proceed into the intersection as long as no one is going straight and trying to cross over. When turning left on a green yield stop sign, you must stop if there is another car waiting at the intersection or another car or pedestrian trying to cross
at the same time as yourself. If a car or pedestrian is crossing, you must yield to them. If the green yield sign is placed at the intersection and the cars are lined up waiting to turn, then it means that there can be no other cars coming through the intersection. Once you enter the intersection and drive through it, then it is considered as though you have turned (not yielded!).
Lists of Rules
What does a left turn yield on green mean? The answer of course depends on what law or rules you are in violation of.
If you are in violation of any of these rules, then you will likely receive a ticket. The most common violations that might get you a ticket include:
Not coming to a full stop before turning on red (Failure to Yield)
Driving the wrong way on a one way road (Failure to Yield)

Tips on Left Turns and Turning #2

I recently had to do a left turn at the stop sign that leads to the old school building and I realized I wasn’t sure if it was legal to make the turn. This is the second tip of my traffic tips series.
I don’t know if this is a common issue but I often find myself not knowing what is allowed. It’s a shame when you are driving around and get pulled over for something you didn’t know was illegal.
Sometimes an officer will tell you that what you did wasn’t illegal so don’t worry about it; other times he or she will give you a ticket. It all depends on their mood and whether they have time, I suppose.
So, let me begin. I know the official (state law) answer is that you are allowed to make a left turn on a red light as long as there aren’t any signs prohibiting it. But I also want to hear some stories. How many of you have actually done this? How many of you got caught doing this?

Signal Red or Green in the U.S.?

First of all I would like to say that Americans (and Canadians) are very lucky to have traffic signals. I live in a country (Uganda) where most of the roads are not in the best state of maintenance and there are hardly any traffic lights. So if I would get hit by a car, it wouldn’t matter which way it was coming from. The car might hit me in the back or the head or whatever but I can’t do anything about it. It’s just not my place.
If you are driving in the U.S. or Canada you can stop suddenly, turn left and let oncoming traffic go past you while you continue straight. It’s your right to go left on a green light provided it isn’t a major intersection and no pedestrians are crossing. If there is crossing traffic then it becomes your responsibility to wait (and perhaps give way to them) until they have passed (and cars can continue through the intersection).
It is said in the Highway Code that if you have a green light you must always give way to traffic turning left as well as traffic going straight. But many people here just don’t listen to that part of the code and drive off because it’s “their” right but they are actually putting other lives at risk by doing this.

How do you enter the U.S.? Just ask an average Joe or Jeeves-like character in your story or product description to

Alright, so here’s my question. Since I hate driving in a car and I don’t want to take the bus or taxi, how do I get into the US? Do I have to apply for a visa or something? I mean once I’m in the car, I just drive as fast as possible and get there as fast as possible. To be honest, once I get in the car, there’s nothing that would stop me. So I guess it would be best to just bomb a country until they invaded my car.
