Charlotte, NC is a beautiful little city nestled in the mountains of western North Carolina. It is also known as “The Queen City”. Charlotte NC was founded in 1791. It’s new city status was officially made official after being incorporated by the legislature of North Carolina on November 12th 1792. This city is actually located in the western parts of the state between Raleigh and Greensboro along with Asheville and Wilmington. Charlotte is also known for its great weather. The winters are milder than in other parts of southern states so that’s why people call it a “Queen City.” Charlotte has one of the biggest shopping malls in America and has restaurants that prepare delicious food that visitors can enjoy while they shop.
Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and the 13th largest in America. Charlotte has grown tremendously over the past few years and is becoming a very popular tourist attraction. The first settlers were refugees from the French Revolution, who immigrated to Virginia and then traveled up the Great Wagon Road following Native American paths, later known as Trading Paths. They founded what would become the town of Charlotte in 1768. The Philosophical Society of North Carolina was formed in 1785, and one year later residents petitioned to form a proper town. Records showed that there were already English-speaking settlers in the area, and they persuaded themselves they needed a namesake more fitting than “Province Town” – thus Charlotte’s official name: “Charlotte in the Soil of America”. The same year, the first church was established. It was a Presbyterian church, and it was named after King George III’s wife: Charlotte. In 1788 the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence from Britain was written and signed just north of Charlotte. This document declared the 13 American colonies to be independent states, not parts of the British Empire. It became known as the “Meck Dec”.
