Fatal Car Accident in Grand Rapids Has Devastating Consequences

A car accident near the intersection of Upton Avenue and Sherman Street has resulted in a fatality. The accident was reported just before 1:00 pm yesterday and began when one vehicle crossed into the path of another at that location. The driver of the car that crossed into the path of the other vehicle has been identified as 73 year old Louise Ann Agee of Grand Rapids. No other vehicle was involved. Ms. Agee was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Andre Health Center EMS personnel assisted by life-flighting police and firefighters from the GRPD and one from Allina Hospitals..
The driver of the vehicle that Ms. Agee crossed into was not injured and cooperated with investigators in the case. The investigation continues by Grand Rapids Police Traffic Division Officers but charges are not expected at this time. Denali Hospital will be handling the investigation into the circumstances of Ms. Agee’s death because she was treated there as a suspect in an attempted suicide situation earlier in the day.
Grand Rapids Police Officer Karl Hartsbo is investigating the Grand Rapids accident, which occurred at 1:02 PM on April 27th.
The Grand Rapids accident brings the total number of accident fatalities to 100 for the first four months of 2013, which is 5 more than during the same period in 2012. This brings a total of 180 car fatalities through April 27th, 2013, which is at least 10 less than during this period in 2012.

The driver of the other vehicle, Ronald B. Oltmans, 73, of Grand Rapids was transported to St. Andre where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries sustained in the accident.
Police are still investigating this accident, but have stated that driver inattention due to cellphone use is a likely cause of the accident.
