Addressing the Future of Downtown Denver’s Regeneration

Downtown Denver is experiencing a much-needed renaissance for a city that was built on the railroad, a sport that is not only history, but also on its way out. The latest figures show that more than 3.2 million people have visited this area since 2012, making it the most popular place to visit in Colorado. This has been helped by the building of some incredible attractions; including the Pepsi Center and Coors Field, which in 2011 alone attracted more than 2 million visitors and helped create more than 7,000 jobs. The Colorado Convention Center, which is just a stone’s throw away from these two attractions, also plays a key role. In the last 12 months alone, more than 1.2 million visitors attended this convention center which has helped boost the local economy with an estimated $3.3 billion in tax revenue. The only company that has been responsible for making this happen is the Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP), an organization that works toward the regeneration of Downtown Denver on behalf of the community and businesses who live in this area. The current president of the partnership is a man called James Lintner, who has been involved with the organization since its early days and is a great tour guide in this city. In an interview with the Denver Post, he talked about his passion for Downtown Denver and what it is like to run this organization as it continues to grow.
“I was born here,” said Lintner, who grew up in Littleton.
His father worked for the Denver Tramway Company, which built the first streetcar line in Colorado, and Lintner was an intern there when he graduated from high school.
Lintner graduated from the University of Denver with a business degree in 1974, but he didn’t get into real estate until the 1980s, when the market crashed and it took him six years to make one sale.
“I had no idea how to work with people,” Lintner said. “It was very frustrating for me. I was the most obnoxious person in the world.
But Lintner said that he learned and by the time he sold his first property in 1987, he was a “super seller.”
