How to Find the Best Travel Deals?

Introduction to The Best Travel Deals

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), in 2009 the gross domestic product (GDP) for Texas was $1.59 trillion. The GDP per capita in 2009 was $41,830, which makes it 16th in GDP per capita ranking out of all 50 states. In 2010, Texas made 19% more than the United States average GDP per capita at $47,680 and in 2011 that figure increased to 22%. That is impressive, but still behind nine states that made more than Texas. In 2010 Texas GDP by industry was 20% more than the United States average and ranked fourth out of all states in GDP by industry at $257.2 billion. Based on December 2011 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) the total nonfarm payroll employment in Texas was 9.1 million and ranked second in the United States behind California’s 10.42 million. So, how does the Houston-San Antonio metropolitan area (HSA) stack up against other areas of Texas?

5 Ways to Find the Best Deal

According to the BEA, Texas’ GDP in 2011 was $1.23 trillion and its GDP per capita was $43,936. Those figures make it number 17 out of all 50 states. That isn’t too great and the fact that Texas is still behind 9 states makes me feel like there is a lot of room for improvement. Well, I have some tips so you can have a better chance at the best travel deal.
Tip #1: Check online travel websites. Most people miss this. Why? They think these travel websites are for last minute or 2 day getaways but that’s not true, it’s for any type of vacation. Some of the best websites I use are Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia and Google Flights. They all have great deals so check them all out.
Tip #2: Check out Groupon and Living Social. If you go to their website and pay attention to their deals. You will see that Groupon and Living Social have some great deals for travel. They are under the same umbrella so I suggest doing both Groupon and Living Social searches.
Tip #3: Check out Kayak, Booking.com, Priceline and Hotwire. These websites are all like Priceline or Hotwire but they are more affordable than those two sites and they have great deals as well. Some good deals on these sites include:
* Booking.com: Using the link above get $50 off your first booking.
* Kayak: For example I’m going to San Antonio to find flights on Wednesday. There is an excellent flight for $11 on Kayak (they have a great search function). For that price you can’t beat it so use the link above and use their $40 off coupon code RICHUGODZ

How Does FaresCompare.com Work? What’s Its Unique Selling Proposition? What are Its Downsides?

FaresCompare.com is a great website that helps travelers find the best fares for every airline, hotel, car rental, and flight according to your own specific travel dates and preferences. It does all of that with flexibility and simplicity in mind. FaresCompare.com has been around since 2007 and has a lot of data to work with, but I am able to find the best deals any other website may miss. Why do I think that? Because of my experience in the travel industry. I have worked in Fixed-Income Operations and Credit Research since 1998. I can tell you a lot about how the industry works, but I know how the airlines, hotels, and car rental agencies work too. It’s great to know that FaresCompare.com has been around for more than a decade because it shows trust in its users as well as making sure to provide exactly what travelers want.
Fares are less expensive when more people purchase them! Airlines try to sell tickets at the lowest price they can to maximize profit. After they do that, they sometimes offer sales to encourage consumers to purchase tickets they would not normally buy. These are called Flash Sales. FaresCompare.com has a section dedicated specifically to flash sales so you can find the best deal on which flight you want to take. It’s great for figuring out when it will be best value for you and your family members/friends to travel!

Are Airfares Really Getting Cheaper in General?

I hate to be the one to break it to you but no, they haven’t gotten cheaper. If you go back and look at the graphs of airfare prices over the past few years you will see that airfares are actually going up. Fares are only cheaper when compared to the time period when they were first available. This has been a trend that has been going on for over a decade.
What is going on? Why are airfares not getting cheaper like they used to? Don’t the airlines want to sell more seats? Generally, yes, but there is one problem with that. More often than not, the airlines cannot sell all of the seats in their flights. As such, they end up having empty seats, which costs them money. So what do they do to prevent sitting on empty seats? They raise the price and hope that will get rid of some of them.
