What happened the night when Kenny Lee Campbell attacked the elderly man?

On February 2, 2017, Campbell spent the day in jail with another man, 41-year-old Nathanial Clark. On the evening of the same day, he was released from the prison and was picked up by his girlfriend. Later that evening, Campbell got into a fight with his girlfriend and left her alone in his car. At this point, Campbell, who had been released from prison on parole, was also arrested for second-degree marijuana possession, a violation of his probation. He later left the police station, where this incident had been reported, and drove to a nearby apartment complex. There he found an elderly man sitting in a wheelchair leaning against an apartment wall. Campbell then raised his hands and began to punch the elderly man in the face, causing him to fall out of his wheelchair. [1]
At this point, Campbell’s girlfriend called 911 requesting medical assistance for her boyfriend. She also told the emergency dispatcher that Campbell had attacked her. At the same time, she called police and informed them of the location of Campbell’s car. She also informed police that her boyfriend was on parole, which was why they had picked him up. [1]

Is there any evidence against Kenny Lee Campbell?

During the investigation, the police examined the phone records of Campbell and found that he had been in contact with a known drug dealer called James Adams. Adams testified that Campbell had connected with him to buy a gun. The evidence against Kenny Lee Campbell was in the form of text messages, including one that read ” Got an extra one. Might need it tonight. I’ll call you back.” However, Campbell denied any involvement in the crime and claimed that the messages were sent by someone else who had visited his house on the day of the robbery.
The evidence against Campbell was compelling, but the jury was left with one problem: at the time of the crime, Campbell already had a criminal record and his previous two convictions were for drug offences. The prosecution argued that this new charge necessitated a new trial and as a result of this, they also accused Campbell of being involved in other robberies.
In his speech to the jury, Campbell’s attorney admitted that he had been involved in robberies in the past. However, he told the jury that this did not amount to guilt.
The jury deliberated in the case of Kenny Lee Campbell and came to the conclusion that he was not guilty.
