The weather in Amarillo has an arid climate and is quite similar to that of Mexico City, which makes it easy to forget that you’re in Texas. The city has four distinct seasons, and great mild winters, so you can enjoy the outdoors all year round.
In terms of food, Amarillo is not really known for its cuisine. However, there are a few exceptions that make the experience in town worthwhile.
Brick House Cafe: Taverns are rare in Amarillo due to the dry climate and religious nature of the locals; however Brick House Cafe’s traditional Irish pub serves some of the best fish and chips in town. What to Eat and Drink at the Most Popular Restaurants in Amarillo, TX

Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of abandoned buildings as well as a lot of fast food restaurants when you walk around the city. That’s because Amarillo is one of the five cities in Texas that still have no zoning laws and offers no incentives for development. As a result, most investors choose to build industrial buildings and warehouses instead of investing in anything else. That being said, Amarillo does have a decent selection of choices when it comes to dining and breweries. Some of the most popular restaurants are as follows:
Rosti’s is the go-to restaurant when you want to splurge on some delicious German food. If you’re craving a burger, you might want to try The Kinky Burger. Their huge portions are a good deal when it comes to pricing but be sure to leave room for dessert because Rosti’s has some of the best desserts that you’ll find in any restaurant.
When you’re in the mood to cook up some good barbecue, try out Smokey’s Ranch. They have a decent range of options when it comes to meats and their sides are all homemade. The only downside is that their portions can be a bit on the small side and they don’t have any outdoor seating which makes it hard to enjoy the weather while you wait for your order.
If you love pizza and want to enjoy yourself, stop by Pizza Headz. They have a pretty decent selection of pizzas but their specialty is the pizza rollers. These are basically long pizza crusts that are filled with cheese, meats and veggies.

Where to Stay and Where not To Spend Your Money While Visiting or Staying In Amarilla, TX?

If you’re on a budget, don’t stay at the Hyatt Regency Amarillo Hotel. Instead, try and find something in a five-star hotel at a decent price. {Best hotels in Amarillo} The same thing goes for food as well; try and find something inexpensive but good enough to satisfy your cravings. {Best cheap food in Amarillo} There are also a lot of great places to eat and stay, especially since there aren’t very many visitors. The best way to get to Amarilla from El Paso would be to go through the border at Van Horn, Texas. When you come to the checkpoint, be sure to ask for a warning from the officer. Amarillo has a lot of nice restaurants and hotels, but is also very cheap to live in.
After having lived in Amarillo for about three years now, there are certain things I’ve noticed about it: First things first, it’s not really that cheap compared to almost every other major city. Living there will probably cost you more than $100 a month, so I’d advise you to live at home unless you have no other option. It’s also not very safe, possibly the 21st least safest city in the country. If you’re thinking of moving to Amarilla or already moved and don’t like it there enough to leave, chances are that if you visited for even a few days, then it’s not for you; try another city instead. {Best inexpensive hotels and restaurants in Amarillo}
