The lines were long. There were two people ahead of me and I was stuck behind a woman that seemed to be taking in every detail of the merchandise around us. She was pointing to every product in excitement and I couldn’t help but watch. The line was moving frustratingly slow and all the while people were talking about how good sale prices were, or how it’s not worth the wait.
“I’m waiting for my other shoe. It’s custom-made.”
She had her order in her hand and I couldn’t help but wonder what she was giving a custom-made pair of shoes for. Was it something special? Or more likely, did she like to spend more money on random things that no one would care about? All these questions were running through my head and I was beginning to feel bored as I followed the woman in front of me around.
“Excuse me, I’m done.” A man said as he walked up to the cash register. He was already done? I had no idea what he had purchased but it didn’t seem like he should have been able to get through in such a short amount of time. I looked down at my product, thinking that maybe I could make it out the door with my product before the woman ahead of me was finished.

I developed a quick list of things the woman could be interested in: 1.She wants to buy her children a game that is similar to the one she bought for herself over ten years ago and she wants it now. 2. She’s a gourmet cook and always finds herself looking for something new, something tasty, and no matter what store she goes to, there is not enough in stock. 3. She’s expecting a special someone to visit her and she has several special foods prepared in advance. 4. She wants to give a gift to her friend who is having a baby and she has never given a gift before. 5. She wants to pre-order the big sale at the store and order more when it comes in. 6. She’s looking for the perfect birthday present for her sister, who is having another child in the next couple of months, but it’s not enough to get the nursery set up. 7. She wants to start a diet, but she’s never done it before and is confused on what to do first. She has no idea where to start.
How do we come up with these unique ideas? By using the keyword research techniques we learned in the early chapters, of course! The keywords to look up in this case are AGE, CHILDREN, COOKING, GIVE GIFT FOR BABY, DIETING.
