How to Get there in 60 Minutes with the Right Route & a Few Tips on Saving Time

Or you can also drive Interstate 55 to Memphis and take the Blue Ridge Parkway to Knoxville, Tennessee. That will add about 4 hours to your trip. If you want to get to Knoxville, you can get on Interstate 40 and take the Natchez Trace Parkway southwest to Tupelo, Mississippi. That will add about 4 hours too. So, how do you save the most time? I’ll give a few tips:
-Hitchhike if possible; hitchhike often if it is not safe or possible.
-Park in Memphis and ride the train back; it takes 2 hours and is cheap to ride ($18 round trip).
-Get out of the car and talk to people; riding the train can be boring.
-Take advantage of any middle class suburbs; you have a much greater chance of finding a good place to live there. In Memphis, for example, you could try Collierville or West Memphis (I believe it is most likely in Collierville). If you can only afford one suburb in Memphis, it has to be Collierville.
-Save some time by getting up earlier and getting on the road by 6 AM (when it is still dark).
-Get out of big cities whenever you can; big cities are not fun to drive in.
-Try to avoid tolls and roads that require tolls.

Best Ways for Navigating Around Memphis on Your Road Trip

From the airport, you can avoid some aggravation and time loss by taking Airways Blvd. ( Hwy. 75) west to South Mendenhall Rd., which then turns into Getwell Rd., which runs directly into Downtown Memphis, ending at Union Ave.. You’ll be taking a route that’s not the most direct, but it avoids a lot of traffic in a city where you’ll have to watch for construction. If you’re going to be in Memphis for a few days, this is the route I would take.
From Beale St., your first stop should be the Rock N’ Soul Brewery (3400 Airways Blvd.). This is a great place to get some beer, live music and watching the game on one of their flat screens. If you’re looking for something more upscale and interesting, try Culinary Triangle downtown. A lot of shops and restaurants are located between Poplar Ave. and Madison Ave., in a neighborhood called Cooper-Young. This is where the most expensive and upscale (Saks, Nordstrom) shops and restaurants are located.
Downtown Memphis has had a lot of development in the last 20 years, so it’s now on par with other cities of its size. You’ll find a variety of things to do and see, from performing art at the Orpheum Theatre , to shopping, dining and night life all downtown . The area around Beale St. has become a lot more developed than it was before, so you can find great restaurants, bars and clubs. The best place to stay is the Peabody Hotel; it’s been renovated and is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Memphis.
