Smallwaisted: short, slender, slimmer
Women are always trying to keep their waist size in check. If they don’t want that dreaded single digit number, there is pressure from friends, family and society. The waist size of a woman varies drastically across age and gender. But what about men? Do we have to worry about our 33 inch waist? Why is this important and how do we measure it?
Chances are, the next time you fly on an airplane, if you turn around to look at the guy behind you, he will probably have a very small waist. That is because men’s waists have been increasing in size much faster than women’s since the 1950s. In fact, today’s young men have a waist size that is 10-12 inches larger than their fathers had at that same age. In other words, today’s young men have waists that are 3 sizes larger than their fathers’ and grandfathers’.
What’s going on?
The waist size is also measured by the male version of a tape measure. The tape measure is placed vertically from the top of the head to the bottom of the belly button. If you are taking a measurement, make sure that both sides are taken so you can compare your waist size.
The best way to find out your actual waist size is to get a tape measure and measure the circumference of your waist.
The circumference of a man’s waist measures around 27 inches. This measurement indicates whether a person is in the normal or high range for his height. The following chart shows the common sizes of men’s waists. It’s important that you wear clothes that fit properly. Otherwise, you could be exposing yourself to health risks associated with wearing bulky clothing that doesn’t allow air to circulate properly.

Sydney, Australia, 19 August 2003 Date: The significance of the waist size is that it is a measure of the body’s shape or inventory. It shows the level at which a person can exercise his muscles. It also reveals whether or not one’s gut has caught up with his work ethic. The body shape also shows whether a man is physically fit. If a man is not fit, his waist size will be proportionally smaller. The waist size reveals how much he is working out. It also shows how much he is eating. When it comes to working out, “eating meat and having a big gut” are two things that are directly connected to one’s waist size. If you are fat, you will never be able to work out properly unless you change your diet or start exercising. That is because it would be useless to work out while eating the same amount of food. So, “the gut always catches up with the work ethic” and “the waist size reveals how much one eats and how much he works out.”

The waist size is not, however, a good method of measuring a woman’s health. This means that the circumference of a man’s waist is a better measure than his height, weight and chest size. A person with a large waist may be in good health. On the other hand, if one has little control over his body shape, he could potentially have many health problems. There is a term that describes this condition: “apple-shaped.” It refers to the shape of a person who has a narrow upper body and carries extra fat around his waist and hips. If this is one’s body type, he should try to reduce the size of his waist. The goal is to have a waist that measures less than half one’s height. To determine the circumference, one must put on a tape measure and stand in front of a mirror. If you are too short to see your feet, you may want to stand closer to the mirror. The ideal waist size is less than half of your height. For instance, if you are 6 feet tall, your ideal waist size is 30 inches (half of 6 inches). This would be a smaller figure than that of someone who is 5 feet 7 inches tall (only 25 inches).
